The art of coopering or barrel making as it is often called dates back centuries, and the basic trade has remained unchanged. coopering requires skill, intelligence, and strength. The Frontier Culture Museum has a cooper on site making these wooden buckets mostly out of pine wood and forged iron. 12” in diameter and 12” tall, but size can vary.

The German Pyramid was developed in a region of Germany where many people earned their living working underground in iron mines. It's mechanism, it's design and it's subject matter all reflect the heritage of the craftsman. With such a piece the craftsman could experiment and even show off his abilities as a designer and woodworker. By the 1850s the Christmas pyramid had assumed a fairly standard form, of graduated tiers alternately presenting biblical scenes and depictions of the rural or mining life. This 11” pyramid is Santa with his many toys that revolve around him when the candles are lit. Candles not included.

Although the first Toby jug was made in the 18th century of a seated man, their origins go back two hundred years to the German jugs in the shape of bears and then the later Staffordshire owl jugs. There is no agreement about how they received their name. These were followed by figures of a drunken parson, a convict, a miner with a blackened face and other figures. This Toby jug is made from earthenware clay in Vermont and features a rounded-bellied man with a beard made of leaves. He holds up to 1qt. of your choice of beverage. 25.Wrought-Iron Trivet304705$64.95
Trivets were used in open hearth cooking to regulate how hot you wanted your pot to get or how fast you wanted your food to cook. Trivets are made with many different designs, and this one is a primitive style with a lot of character. This trivet is 5” high and 7” in diameter. Each piece is designed and hand-forged by the skilled blacksmiths in the Ulster Forge at the Frontier Culture Museum.

This was a very popular item used in the kitchen. Hand forged harnen stands were mainly as a device to toast breads and cakes. You set the food on the shelf and put it as close to the fire as needed to toast or crust the top of bread. This stand has a classic design and is 19” high and 15” in diameter.
